Hybrid CT200h doesn't have a "park" setting on the gear shift. Car must be turned off.
Unfortunately, a new driver in this car would not know that. In this case, the driver had to get something outside of the car. He put on emergency brake, got out of car to get something, but didn't know to turn car totally off (there is no inbetween). It rolled downhill ~100 yards and crashed into another car (thank God nothing worse).
AND airbags did not deploy. Easy mistake to make AND the bags failed (so good that there was no one behind the wheel). Seems like a design flaw on no "park" gear. And then why would the bags not deploy?
The car it hit was an old Chevy Suburban, and this tiny car lifted the Chevy onto the sidewalk a couple of feet. Can you image the damage had it hit a house or several cars or a person? And then because the car "thought" someone was driving it, the fob would not unlock the doors at the accident scene.
It just kept running. All kinds of serious problems here.
